The Carmes St, in Bergerac (near the cinema and Repubique & Carmes Car Parks) is getting a facelift : widening of the pavement for the pedestrians, implementation of a cyclist lane, a 15mins parking zone with 2 carpark spots for disabled people. Therefore, from march, a temporary one-way system will be in place until completion of the work (May 2019).
The project has been going on for quite some time opposing wildlife and heritage organizations with the support of local mayor against the Departmental Council of Dordogne.

To improve the traffic, Beynac has already widened the main road and sidewalks with success.
According to the wildlife and heritage organizations, the bypass will wreak havoc on protected species (the area is a sanctuary for rare species) and cuts right through an area of outstanding natural beauty.
On the 28th of december, 2018, the State Council decided to put on hold the project (roadworks have been going on since january 2018 and already half of the cost, 15 million of euros has been spent)
