Focus On The Green Lane Between Bergerac and Prigonrieux: Chemin de la Batellerie

Last week (Tues 9th of april 2019), we decided to check on the Green Lane progress between Prigonrieux and Bergerac ie Le Chemin de la Batellerie (walk connected to the Pierre Loti footpath from the Bergerac port: my article here).

Work is still in progress with some parts already done (tarmac) and some not.

One thing is for sure, it’s a brilliant and relaxing walk to do with an awesome view of the river Dordogne and french countryside with wild flowers!

The Green Lane also called the V91 is more than 30 kms of path along the river Dordogne for an easy walk or a long bike trail, from Mouleydier to Gardonne via Bergerac harbour.

Worked started in 2017 and is due to be finished in 2021.

In Bergerac, around the harbour, the Green Lane has led to some traffic disruptions – closure of the Salvette Quay till next friday (28 /03/19).

Bergerac City Hall advised drivers instead to use the ring roads.

A temporary one-way system will be then implemented till the completion of the work (01/06/19) from Bellegarde to the new bridge.

In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek of the work in progress (Thanks to @natrphoto) !

Can’t wait to see the final result in June!

Beaumont Summer Night Market with pony rides

Summer in the Dordogne is always busy and there are always plenty of things to see and do !

One of our favorite is the Summer Night Market or Foodie Market (“Marche Gourmand”). If you’re in the area, it’s the best way to spend a brillant evening feasting on local food, freshly cooked in front of you and dance to your heart’s content.

It’s a very popular event and it’s no wonder it’s one of the highlight of our village, Beaumont du Périgord (Dordogne, SW of France) !

Every monday at 6.30pm, simply walk up the street from our vacation rental home to the market square, the beating heart of our village, to mingle with the locals and share an fantastic evening. Grab one of the tables which are set up and walk around the market stalls to buy directly from the local producers whatever you fancy for supper. Market traders provide everything from wine, starters, cooked meals (Lamb kebabs, duck sausages, mussels, black pudding, lamb chops.simple sausages or steaks, with chips naturally..). and deserts (yummy freshly picked strawberries….)and each supply the appropriate plastic cups or cutlery. There is something for all tastes. So you can choose your meal and take it back to the table and enjoy dining under the stars, al frescoe with music by a local band.

The Riding School CEPB is also present at the square to delight little ones with its pony rides! It’s a fun way to discover the cobbled streets of our village!

You’ll find similar Night Markets all around The Dordogne.
