Discover New Trendy, Unique and Sustainable Shop In Beaumont

Ma Super Petite Boutique, is our new village shop in Beaumont du Perigord (only 5 mins walk from our rental, l’Ancienne Ecole).

Behind this small retail business “Ma Super Petite Boutique”, meet two women with a will power: Ariane Goumand and Sandrine Hutin  !

After the closure of the convenience shop, Casino, and the move of the pharmacy outside the village, Ma Super Petite Boutique was born to bring essentials, local products and crafts to the village 7 days of the week.

In partnership with local producers (50kms around Beaumont), the shop is a local business with a twist. It stocks and sells fresh, local, seasonal products in bulk or not, organic or not, well known or not (fruit, veggies, cheese, beers, .. kombucha, shiitakee mushrooms, macaron stuffed with foie gras, ….) but also local crafts (soaps, jewelry, pottery, home decor & accessories .. ).

And for those who are stuck for basics on a sunday morning, trust Ma Super Petite Boutique to save the day !

More than a corner shop, Ma Super Petite Boutique, wants to grow up and become a buzzing hub where people can meet up and talk around a hot drink.

Last december, the shop celebrated its first anniversary and we, at l’Ancienne Ecole, wish its two owners successful and properous year ahead!

My favorite corner in the shop has to be the one dedicated to local talented artists!
I keep drooling on Graines D’Art: delicate colourful jewelry creations made by Claire from Costa Rica seeds!

OMG! The Best Croissant, Baguette & Pastry Ever !

Do you have a sweet tooth like me?

The Dordogne is the perfect place to sample sweet treats with lots of bakeries/pastries shops to choose from!

And if you wonder, where to buy your croissant, baguette and pastry near Bergerac, here’s our 2 favorite places :

1- Boulangerie L’Epi beaumontois (Beaumont du Perigord)

Our village has a few bakeries but our favorite has to be L’Epis beaumontois.

5 mins walk from our rental, drop in, for fresh , out of the oven croissants and some delicious “sarmentine” bread for your breakfast. The “sarmentine” is a typical local bread with sesame, easily recognisable by its shape (split ends to illustrate the vine shoots from the vineyard ).

If you get a chance, try the walnut pie, it’s the house specialty!

Location:
L’Epi beaumontois : n°15 Rue Romieu in Beaumont-du-Perigord,

2- Boulangerie Patisserie Deli “A La Gloire de Mon Père” (Creysse, Saint Sauveur) (UPDATE 04/19: CLOSED)

A la Gloire de Mon Père is our latest find!

There are in two locations: Creysse (Main St) and St Souveur (Main St)

Everything is fresh, colourful and to die for!

Bonus: you can grab a table and treat yourself to a cup of coffee with one their oh so yummy pastries (try some “chouquette”!) before going for a walk along the river Dordogne!

Check out their Facebook page and get ready to drool … https://goo.gl/zDcAJF

6 Things Your Boss Expects You To Bring Back From Your Holiday In The Dordogne Valley

6 Things Your Boss Expects You To Bring Back From Your Holiday In The Dordogne Valley

Here’s our Top 6 things to buy in the Dordogne!

1- WINE:

We work in partnership with local vineyards for wine tasting tours by taxi.
But if you don’t wish to spend a couple of hours in a vineyard, you can buy directly from a shop/vineyard.
Our favorite one is : The Domaine de L’Ancienne Cure (shop & vineyard run by organic winegrower, Christian Roche), 15 mins drive from our rental and on the way to Bergerac airport. More details: https://goo.gl/dXtPdU

2- CHEESE: Trappe d’Echourgnac

This is one of my all time favorite cheese and we call it here, in our house, “Nuns Cheese”…. why???? Simply because it’s been produced by nuns since 1868  at the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bonne Espérance (our Lady of Good Hope), near Double in Dordogne.
La Trappe d’Echourgnac is made from pasteurized cow’s milk. The Abbey produces two versions of the cheese; a traditional recipe based on Port Salut and a newer version of the same cheese but washed with walnut liqueur (the exterior rind is a dark, rich brown).
It’s a mild cheese with a nutty flavour so it will appeals to a lot of people.

You can purchase them from the Abbey shop or in any good local supermarkets.
Location:
Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bonne Espérance
Directions : 1,5 km west from Échourgnac via the D8 going to Saint-Aulaye.

5- CRAFTS FROM TALENTED LOCAL ARTISTS:

If I had to pick only 2, it would be:

Eric Simonin, Glass blower in Brantome

Eric Simonin chose Brantome, the “Venise du Perigord”, to set up his workshop. A true artist, he creates amazing and unique glass art sculptures inspired from Mother Nature: jellyfish, anemone, mushrooms, stones… and turns them into lamps, plates, jewellery and even chrismas balls. They are all breathtaking and no wonder they were in the nationalTV a few times.

Website and online shop:http://www.ericsimonin.fr/

Alexandra and Jean-François Cesar from the pottery shop “La Salamandre” in Monpazier.

They make the most exquisite ceramic, stoneware and porcelain ware you’ve ever seen and at a reasanable price!
